Monday 14th September: Day 0 (Setup)
Greetings from a foggy Silverstone! It’s that time of year again when I head north to visit our UK office and catch up with Chris. This year, Chris and I are heading to the Movers and Storer’s show a month early (the show is normally held towards the end of October but this year, is in the middle of September). Although it means I missed the Ashes, I am here while they are playing the World Cup.
Right, now that I’ve got that out of the way, I thought I would share with you a few photos from “Day 0” at the Movers & Storers Show… also known as “setup day”! The show is held every year at the world-renowned Silverstone Raceway in a building called “The Silverstone wing” (click for photo; taken during construction). Its angular roof, with an upturned ‘blade’ at one end, was intended to evoke a sensation of movement and speed, although the building reminded me a little of an aircraft carrier.
This year we are pleased to be exhibiting StorMan’s range of Self Storage Management Software amongst almost 50 other exhibitors who are showing off all things removals & storage. Enjoy the foggy photos from Day 0 – and I’ll be posting a lot more in the coming two days as the show kicks off – so be sure to visit this page again tomorrow for more news & photos from the 2015 Movers & Storers Show. See you soon!
Tuesday 15th September: Day 1 (Show day)
3… 2… 1… and we’re off & racing! The Movers & Storers Show has officially kicked-off to a great start this year. This morning saw one of the show’s best start in years – with almost 500 people coming through the doors! Chris & I were very busy showing off StorMan in all its glory to a number of new and existing removals and self storage businesses.
The hot topic of conversation this year seems to be insurance! Many owners are looking to increase their revenue by on-selling Insurance to their customers. Many were very pleased to see that StorMan catered for all the various models of insurance and the fact that we could automate insurance reporting through our Batch Print & Email Reporting (link for StorMan clients) function, which was a big hit. If you haven’t yet had a chance to see StorMan’s range of self storage management software, we invite you to download a free trial.
Something else I noticed was a great level of interest in self storage in general – as it seems that the removals industry is doing it tough and many owner operators have identified self storage as the vehicle that will enable them to lead the pack. Of course, this works well – as self storage is a natural adjunct to their removals business.
Many who visited our tradeshow stand were very interested in the front-of-house automation that StorMan provides with invoicing, payments and access control integration for gates, alarms and so on. All in all, today was a fantastic start to the Movers & Storers Show. Chris and I are looking forward to meeting more of you tomorrow!
Wednesday 16th September: Day 2 (Show day)
Today marked the final day for the 2015 Movers & Storers Show, with many choosing the late start option, which seemed like a good idea given the torrential rain we experienced last night and earlier today. However, we did get a few patches of sunshine – as you’ll see from the photos & video. Given the change in weather, the racers where out in force too – as today was also the Ferrari Club Track Day (see video below).
For the Movers and Storer’s amongst us, we started well and continued the strong showing from the day before with a really good attendance rate. Chris and I were quite busy on the stand for most of the day! Today also marked the annual Awards Day for the “Packer of the Year” and “Truck of the Year” competitions. Both of these were widely and fiercely contested and our congratulations go to all the winners.
Our demonstrations at the StorMan booth today centered around “simplifying the day to day processing” – something our self storage management software is very good at, especially when it comes to business automation.
The most creative award for the show goes to person I met who uses a white board to track move ins with yellow sticky notes. When I asked what happens if they lose their stickiness & fall off, they simply referred to their backup system – a photograph. Suffice to say, this person is now considering using StorMan and our integrated map feature to assist with this previously onerous task.
All in all, it was a great day and Chris and I were amazed with the enthusiasm this show brings to the industry. Finally, a big thank you to Keith and the team from Animo Events for their well-crafted and highly organized event! We look forward to seeing you all in 2016.
